Sonoma Interiors has completed an office transformation and modernization in the heart of Napa Valley wine country, and we are excited to share some of the inspiration, design concepts, and photos of this exciting project.

As a premier brand in Napa’s wine industry, the client operates eight well-established estates that are pillars in California, and extend to Margaux, France with a vineyard dating back to the seventeenth century. The founding family has a heritage of salvaging properties, preserving their history and restoring them to their former glory. To honor that spirit in their corporate offices, Andrea highlighted each estate in an area of the office, through a combination of art and found biophilic elements from the properties themselves. As you move throughout the office, you experience each winery in different ways; for example, in ‘Office M’, a shared office, you’ll see a large-scale mural of a rolling vineyard, while the kitchen contains branded imagery to provide a pop of color.

This project involved the complete renovation of an existing 4,106 sf office suite, including new space plan, improved flow, custom casework, furniture specification, and lighting replacement. (It also includes the stunning outdoor patio, which is currently under construction!) The client required workspaces for 24 employees, with improved efficiency, increased privacy, and reduced distractions, all while celebrating their ‘million dollar’ vineyard views.

Color palette and materials were inspired by the layers of sediment in soil, which harken the layers within their organization. Soil creates an ombré effect, as you move from the light topsoil down to the increasingly dark sublayers. The white oak in the general offices represented the topsoil, like in the vineyards, abuzz with activity. The next sublayer of soil is darker; its role is to support the roots and preserve the vine. Similarly, executive offices are neutral but with darker tones. The bottom layer of soil, the deepest layer, is the parent material - the foundation from which everything flourishes. It contains rich nutrients; the CEO’s palette is rich and moody. The vines in the field, the basis of their entire business, became a symbolic visual representation that enforces the concept throughout.

Chevron-patterned flooring was inspired by heads of wheat, the international symbol of agriculture; Olive branch cuttings are sprinkled throughout, so the client could replenish this natural décor easily from their surrounding property.

Each employee is given a succulent, provided by local horticulturist, Dawn Benziger, who curated all of the greenery for the project. Plants are proven to help ease stress and lift the mood, in addition to adding color and life to the space.
