Celebrating Sonoma's Harvest Season at the Valley of the Moon Vintage Festival

This weekend, Sonoma celebrates their 199th harvest season with the Valley of the Moon Vintage Festival, which has been a weekend celebration to toast the birthplace of California wine since 1897. Growing up in Sonoma, I have such fond memories of this event. There's a fun parade and the town would all hang out in the Plaza, eating, drinking wine, playing games, listening to live music, and appreciating our local artists.

There are plenty of ways to join the fun! Here's a lineup of some of the events:

  • Sonoma Valley Legends Dinner. This exclusive wine-pairing dinner, prepared by renowned local Chef Ari Weiswasser from the fabulous Glen Ellen Star restaurant, takes place at B.R. Cohn Winery. This ticketed event benefits the Sonoma Valley Vintners & Growers Alliance and Foundation to support Sonoma Valley through grant-making, scholarships, and charitable programs.

  • Vintage Festival 5k Run. This is no ordinary 5k! The course meanders through beautiful vineyards and some of the most picturesque areas in Sonoma.

  • Sonoma Valley plaza festivities. This FREE event takes place all day, and features the Blessing of the Grapes, wine, beer and food concessions, Artisans Festival, and so much live music!

  • Sonoma Valley Grape Stomp. A tradition dating back to the early days of wine-making! This ticketed event is fun for teams or individuals who want to kick of their shoes and get messy.

  • Sonoma Valley Grand Tasting. This event gives you the opportunity to try an amazing variety of wines and interact with growers from over forty fabulous Sonoma wineries.

One of the many things we love about the Festival is the celebration of local art. Did you know there's an annual Vintage Festival Poster Contest? This is just a sampling of some of the beautiful original artwork of the contest winners over the years.

If you're not following @sonomavalleywine on Instagram, you can find more info and fun facts about the celebration there. Tickets for the events can be found at the Festival website here.
